Cody Deal channels both Luke Skywalker and Napoleon Dynamite for his portrayal of Thor, a combination that is almost lethal to the entire production. For the first half-hour, I really wanted Loki to beat the absolute crap out of the empty-headed bastard. Then a funny thing happened: Cody Deal’s annoying turn was eclipsed by the scenery-chewing powers of Richard Grieco. The “If Looks Could Kill” alumni’s pasty white mug often wears a wide variety of genuinely frightening expressions, all of which are accompanied by a limited selection of generic dialogue. The script, meanwhile, is a hodgepodge of tired action cliches, familiar sword and sorcery conventions, and mythological terminology gleaned from a quite perusal of Wikipedia. Then again, what do you expect from a concept created by someone who wrote “Snakes on a Train”. That’s right — “Snakes on a Train“.
But who am I kidding? I eat this sort of low-rent lunacy for breakfast with a big wooden spoon. “Almighty Thor” is schlock cinema at its finest, a cheap, unabashedly stupid action flick that will surely get plenty of free advertising from its association with a certain Hollywood blockbuster. Anyone expecting anything more from Christopher Ray’s impossibly campy romp is seriously barking up the wrong cinematic tree. There’s not a single drop of quality buried anywhere throughout the production; even the giant hellhounds aren’t very inspired or well-designed. But that’s precisely what I’d hoped “Almighty Thor” would deliver, and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind sitting down with a sequel. Assuming, of course, they can get Cody Deal and Richard Grieco to reprise their roles. I wouldn’t have the tale of Thor or Loki told any other way.Watch Almighty Thor 2011 Movie Full Movie
